Returning to my first Substack post and the Twilight Zone episode of the alien Kanamit and their book “To Serve Man”…. ummm ‘serving humans’ pick your favourite recipe.
The 3rd year students participate in an exhibition of work in their Draw/Paint course. One of the students with bold drawings had large added constructed forms. She said she was so engaged with materials she forgot she had an iPad. We don’t need devices to be the pencil and paper we need them to support the endless imagination.
Absolutely and that is fantastic to hear! We are fed the lie, that these devices can do it all, with 100s of options and endless possibilities… but really it’s a disservice in the end. It breeds laziness, and that lazy mind becomes inert. I get electricity that shoot up and down my spine when I draw and loose myself in drawing on paper or canvas. Fucking love it.
A device promoted as the culmination of physical creative materials and mediums….that is vastly more tailor-made for media consumption. Great words!

I refuse to let go of, that beautiful simplicity. A pencil, piece of paper and the endless imagination. Thanks for the words, well said.
